KidTag is a small, private kid-tracker for the handful of neighbor families you already trust. This page covers how to reach us and the most common questions. If something below doesn't answer your question, email [email protected]; a real person reads every message.

The fastest way to reach us is email. We aim to reply within one business day.

Getting started.

Setting up KidTag takes a few minutes:

  1. Download KidTag from the App Store and open it.
  2. Sign in with your phone number. We send a one-time code by SMS.
  3. Add your household: your display name, home address, and the kids in your care (first name, optionally birth month and year, optionally a photo).
  4. Invite the families you trust by phone number or by sharing an in-app QR code in person. They'll go through the same setup.
  5. Once a household accepts, your trusted circle is connected and you can tag kids in and out at each other's houses.

Invites and trusted circles.

KidTag is invite-only on purpose. There is no public profile, no search, and no way for a stranger to find you in the app.

  • Sending an invite. In Settings → Trusted circle → Invite a household, you can send an invite by phone number or generate a QR code to scan in person.
  • Accepting an invite. When you receive an invite, you'll see who sent it and which household. You can accept or decline.
  • Removing a household. In Settings → Trusted circle, tap the household and choose Remove. They will no longer see your kids' tag events, and you will no longer see theirs. Past tag events are retained for both sides for context, but no new ones will be shared.

Tagging kids in and out.

The whole gesture is two taps:

  • Tag in. When a kid arrives at your house, the adult on duty opens KidTag, taps the kid's face, and chooses Tag in at home. An optional note ("staying for dinner") can be added. The kid's parent sees the update on their dashboard.
  • Tag out. When the kid leaves, tap the kid again and choose Tag out. They're no longer marked as at your house.
  • Mistakes. If you tag the wrong kid or the wrong direction, tap the event and choose Undo. Both households see the correction.

Notifications.

You can control what you're pinged about in Settings → Notifications:

  • Tag-in events for your kids (default: on).
  • Tag-out events for your kids (default: on).
  • Notes attached to a tag (default: on).
  • Invites and trusted-circle changes (default: on).

If you're not getting notifications: open the iOS Settings → Notifications → KidTag and make sure Allow Notifications is on. Then in KidTag, pull-to-refresh on the dashboard, which re-registers your push token.

Account and sign-in.

  • Changing your phone number. Settings → Account → Phone number → Change. We'll send a code to the new number to verify it.
  • Changing your display name or home address. Settings → Household.
  • Lost your phone or got a new one. Sign in on the new device with the same phone number. Your account, household, and trusted circle come back automatically.
  • Didn't get the SMS code. Wait 60 seconds and tap Resend. Make sure your number is entered with the correct country code. If it still fails, email [email protected].

Privacy and your data.

The short version: we don't sell your data, run third-party ads, or share anything with people outside your trusted circle. Sensitive fields (allergy notes, kid photos) are end-to-end encrypted and our servers see ciphertext only.

For full detail, read our Privacy Policy. If you want to:

  • Export your data. Settings → Account → Export my data. We email you a JSON archive of everything tied to your account.
  • Delete your account. Settings → Account → Leave & Delete. We remove your account, your household's records, and your kids' records within 30 days. Tag events that involved other households are retained on their side as part of their own history but stripped of identifying detail.
  • Submit a privacy or data request. Email [email protected] with subject "privacy".

Troubleshooting.

  • The app won't open or crashes immediately. Force-quit (swipe up from the bottom and flick KidTag away), then reopen. If it still crashes, restart the iPhone. If it still crashes, uninstall and reinstall; your account and data come back when you sign in.
  • I'm not seeing a tag event from a connected household. Pull-to-refresh on the dashboard. Make sure both households are still in each other's trusted circles (Settings → Trusted circle).
  • The map is empty or won't load. The map only shows households in your circle. If you're new to the app and haven't connected anyone yet, that's expected. Try Settings → Trusted circle → Invite a household.
  • The QR code I'm scanning won't accept. QR invites expire after 24 hours. Have the other household generate a new one.

Report a problem or abuse.

If someone in your trusted circle is using the app to harass, monitor a child without consent, or otherwise behaves in a way that doesn't belong on KidTag:

  1. Remove them from your circle (Settings → Trusted circle → tap the household → Remove). They will no longer see your kids' tag events and you will no longer see theirs.
  2. Email us at [email protected] with subject "report" and a brief description. We review every report and take action within one business day.
  3. If a child is in immediate danger, call 911 (or your local emergency number) first. KidTag is not a 911 alternative.

Acceptable use is detailed in our Terms of Service.
